PLAGIARISM V. RESEARCH

What’s the difference between plagiarism and research? Plagiarism is when you copy one person’s body of work. Research is when you copy a bunch of people’s bodies of work! I’ve always gotten a chuckle with that joke.

The original content that got my “juices” flowing on this topic came from a LinkedIn post from Brian Eife from Edge Office Systems. He appears to have the same philosophy as I do regarding what really makes a service company. So why is WJ Office and the copier industry so special?

I entered this industry 52 years ago when I joined a company that sold typewriters and calculators. Two years later I bought my own company (WJ Office) and have operated it ever since. What Brian shared and what I’ve learned is that a service company is more than just fixing equipment. It’s also about fixing the customer and making sure they know how much you care.

Let’s look at other service industries. If your refrigerator breaks, you’re lucky to get it repaired in a week. Car repair? You’ll need to beg for the earliest appointment and answer the question, “will you be waiting here, or do you need a ride to go somewhere else?” Cable or internet issues? I don’t even want to go there.

In our world, a four-hour response time and an 85% first-time fix rate are not goals – they are expectations. When a part is delayed, a loaner copier is expected. At WJ Office, our technicians care. Our service manager is also the person you talk to when you call in to report the problem. In many cases, he recognizes the problem and sometimes fixes it on the phone and other times he can give the tech a “heads-up” on what problem to expect and what parts he may need to have with him at the customer’s site.

This is BEYOND factory service. It’s ingrained as part of our culture. Our service people take pride in solving problems, minimizing downtime, and putting our clients first every single day. It’s the reason that many of the largest users of printing equipment in the area choose WJ Office over the service departments of some of the direct manufacturers that also cover our area. Great equipment that is right for YOU. FAST, RELIABLE, COMPETENT SERVICE, now! It’s the WJ WAY! Let us know what we can do for you.

ABOUT US >

WJ Office has seen many changes since we opened our doors in 1976. Our president, Neville Chaney, started out when electric typewriters were the rage and you could only get supplies from mail order catalogs. Most businesses didn’t have computers either—only the top corporations could afford them.

But even in those days, businesses recognized the need for great customer service. WJ Office has always paid close attention to the needs and requests of our clients. We’ve expanded our offerings over time in response to those evolving needs. When PCs came out, we started offering computer furniture.

Our focus on innovation has enabled us to continue growing over the years. In the beginning, we had three employees in a 1,100 square foot building. Today, we have multiple offices spread throughout North Carolina. Competitors, from local rivals to big box stores, have come and gone, but we’ve weathered the changes to business that the past 50 years have brought. We’ll continue to deliver innovative results that help your business succeed.
